March 15, 2008

On December 13th 2007 the quality of my life changed. It was the day Dr. Kanayama operated on me at Greenwich Hospital. As for many endometriosis patients it had been a long road to that day. I am 39 years old and was diagnosed at age 25 with endo but have suffered since I began menstruating. Before meeting Dr. Kanayama I had 2 laparoscopic surgeries. My previous OBGYN even tried different hormonal therapies, including Lupron (and which would not recommend to any from my experience). I found Dr. Kanayama through the internet when I decided to research on my own. My OBGYN told me that there was nothing more they could do for me and that I would need to see a specialist or a pain management doctor. However, they really did not know who to refer me to other than my fertility specialist. Yes, I had IVF at age 29, which was another whole experience in itself. (I lost a set of identical twins at 12 weeks but was blessed with a son). I chose not to go back to the fertility doctor because he performer the same type of laparoscopic procedures that I already had. By the time I found Dr. Kanayama the disease had invaded every aspect of my life.

I was impressed with his office from the first phone call. His office manager Sabrina is very thorough and caring. She handled everything from insurance, pharmacy calls and scheduling of all appointments. Her confidence in Dr. Kanayama was one of the reasons why I scheduled  a consult with him. After meeting him I knew that I had found the right surgeon. He performed a much more thorough  exam and ultrasound than my previous doctor. He explained the stage of my disease, treatment and answered all my questions. He was extremely confident and compassionate. What also impressed me was that when I called the office with a few questions he got on the phone immediately. What physician does that?? My wonderful experience did not stop there. The Greenwich Hospital where he operated is the best facility I have ever been to. The hospital is designed like a hotel. The staff were so efficient, kind and even pampered me. You can tell they truly enjoyed working there. I've never had a surgery or hospital stay go so smoothly. The food is even very good!! I was an overnight start and almost didn't want to go home!

My prayers have been answered. I am now 2 months post op and feel wonderful. I am a new person! I cannot thank Dr. Kanayama, Sabrina and Greenwich Hospital enough. Dr. Kanayama had changed my life more than he knows.
