November 6, 2007 Hello, my name is Barbara and I am 26 years old. It all started after high school when I noticed I was getting bad abdominal pains before and after menstruation. I thought it was something that would pass but 7 years later I was still dealing with this pain. It was interfering with work and my social life. Sometimes the pain was so bad that I would bend over and cry, praying out loud for the pain to stop. I had visited many doctors and they all said the same thing. I was told I had severe periods or that the pain was coming from ovulation, which is normal but this pain was far from normal. Finally, my gynecologist explained to me that I had a retroverted uterus and fibroids. I had a laparoscopy done in 2003 in which he removed the fibroids and repositioned my uterus. Was this the answer and solution I needed? No! Seven months later I was back in pain. I was on the verge of going insane, this pain was back and at its worst. Earlier this year I began seeing a new gynecologist and he said I probably had endometriosis based on my symptoms. He then put me on birth control, which helped but 10 months later the pain was back. It was enough, I had enough of "I think" or "you might have". I needed answers and treatment ASAP. I did some research online and found the website for Dr. Kanayama. After reading everything I called and made and appointment and to my surprise they scheduled my appointment for the following week. My first visit was great, Dr. Kanayama explained to me what I had (endometriosis) and where it was located. I also found out that my fibroids had grown back and that my uterus tipped backwards putting pressure on my spine. I knew that endometriosis can cause infertility and I have yet to have children. He assured me that he would take care of me and something in his voice assured me that he was right. I had advanced laparoscopy done just 2 weeks ago and he was right. I had 3rd stage endometriosis. With his knowledge and expertise he was able to completely remove everything. After surgery the difference I felt from the last surgery was incredible. I was able to walk around after a few hours and have not used any pain medication. Greenwich Hospital was a beautiful, modern and very clean hospital. The staff was great and made me feel at ease. They assured me that I had one of the best doctors working on me and that I would be just fine. Dr. Kanayama saved me from insanity. I highly recommend that any woman dealing with endometriosis make it their point to see Dr. Kanayama. This disease can literally control the way me we live. I have found my angel and I can't thank Dr. Kanayama enough for treating me. I will never forget this experience! I look forward to recovery, living life as I should be and starting a family.
