November 20, 2009 I was diagnosed with the high possibility of a fairly large (10.6 cm x 6.6cm) chocolate ovarian cyst by my OB/Gyn in Shanghai in early October. She recommended that I have this removed in Shanghai as soon as possible, but for various reasons I decided to look at my alternatives before having anything done. All I can say, is that I am so glad I did. While I can only begin to grasp all that Dr. Kanayama did for me during my surgery (which ended up being far more than removing one chocolate cyst), it is very clear he did a most exacting, thorough and excellent job. I felt like I was being treated by someone of the caliber of Yo Yo Ma…but in clearly quite a different field. Naturally, I wouldn’t wish gynecological surgery upon anyone, but if someone did need both trustworthy and reassuring advice plus a surgeon with the highest of skills and reputation and not to mention humility, then I would absolutely recommend talking with Dr. Kanayama. The surgery was highly non-invasive, especially considering the approximately 4 hours it took to complete. I took basic pain killers for one day after the surgery and did not need to take anything more after that first day. Recovery was basically very quick and I had no complications. While it may seem strange to say, as far as surgeries go, I feel it was a dance. Both the facilities and staff at Greenwich Hospital are top of the line and only added to my feelings of being totally relaxed while preparing for surgery. As I had to make all the arrangements from abroad, Sabrina was totally indispensable in terms of getting everything ready from insurance questions, to surgery dates, to simply answering the many general questions I had about the whole procedure. She was consistently patient and helpful in whatever way she could be and simply added to the smoothness of the entire process. Overall, I simply feel very fortunate to have heard about Dr. Kanayama. It didn’t take me long to realize that he was precisely who I needed to be under the care of. Sarah Elliott |
