Hello everyone! I had my surgery on Friday and have to say its been nothing short of miraculous! Every positive thing that has been said about Dr. K is true. The staff at the hospital told me that women come from all over the world to see him and now I know why. It is almost difficult to figure out what to do with yourself when the areas that you've had chronic pain for years are just pain free! The pain is GONE! I am still having a bit of post surgical pain, but nothing like I would be having if I had a hysterectomy! The hospital is beautiful. Almost what hospitals used to be like years ago when patients really mattered and everyone got individualized attention. They put you in your own room while waiting for surgery. Its like a small hotel room with a bed, bathroom, chairs, television. They make you comfortable and get you ready to go in to pre op. At that point, the doctor and the anthestisiologist (I am sure I spelled that wrong!) come in and meet with you, answer any questions, etc. You are then wheeled in to surgery, made comfortable, put to sleep and wake up in recovery room. While you are in recovery, Dr. K goes in and meets with your family, He brings pictures of the procedure and explains everything he did and found, After about an hour or 2 you go back in to your room and you stay until you feel comfortable to go home. That could be several hours or overnight. I was there for about 10 hours and then felt comfortable to go home. The first 2 days there is pain from the surgery because of the gas that they use to expand your abdomen, but then it starts to go away. I am on day three and I am up, trying to have a regular day. I will have to take it easy for the next two weeks but that is mostly because areas of my body that were moved around due to the endometriosis are now having to move back in to their normal positions. I am not having ANY pain in the areas where I was having severe chronic pain before the surgery. NONE! Amazing! I will keep you all posted on my progress as the days go by.....please, if a gynecologist is recommending hysterectomy, get a second, third and 23rd opinion! It is NOT the cure for endometriosis! If anyone has difficulty accepting that fact, read from others who have had hysterectomies and still have pain. Endometriosis is when the lining of the uterus finds its way OUTSIDE of the uterus....removing the uterus makes no sense. Let's be the voices of change for women and begin demanding that our doctors are TRAINED in the areas that we need them to be. Patients should not have to tell their doctors how to fix a problem! If thats the case, then healthcare costs need to come way down if I have to tell my doctor whats wrong with me. Maybe they need to start paying me for MY time! :-) There is a light at the end of this tunnel...there is a procedure that will take away the pain.....have hope! good luck!!
